Mexico: Rosewood Mayakobá

Piercing the tropical waters flowing from the Gulf and bordering the depths of the Caribbean, the sultry haven of Mayakobá is perched at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula and is home to the prolific Rosewood Resort. This destination can be described simply as one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited in Mexico. Upon arrival, you can instantly feel the permeating hospitality that is unique to the Rosewood and its international luxury brand. The immaculate service and generous accommodations at this particular location are literally “over the top.”

The property sprawls across a stretch of lush land that reaches into the jungle-laden mainland of Mayakobá and stretches out into the vast turquoise waters. With charming structures dispersed throughout the landscape, transportation is made possible to and from the hotel’s communal spaces by chauffeured golf cart or navigating by boat through the master plan of networked canals and lagoons. These scenic inlets lead to each of the stilted residences, the glistening beach-side pool, and traverses the pristine shoreline.

Organic wooden terraces contour the Rosewood’s pathway to a sweeping view of the peaceful ocean where you are welcomed by elegant lounge chairs, a contemporary beach bar and an inviting infinity-edge swimming pool. The experience is highlighted by the lovely natural environment as well as the exclusive services that are offered here. Every few hours I was greeted by a pair of pleasant beach attendants who performed a mesmerizing tradition that left me speechless. Above and beyond the inquiry for an icy refreshment, I enthusiastically accepted the offer to be primped with freshly soaked cucumber eye masks and to receive an invigorating temple massage. While being spontaneously pampered, my sunglasses were gently cleaned for yet another pleasant surprise.

Coveted tropical cocktails can be found at the casual beach bar as well as at Agave Azul, where they host their renowned weekly tastings. The origin, flavors and meticulous techniques to perfecting the art of tequila were detailed and illustrated glass by glass for a truly memorable experience. For a fine-dining approach, the fantastic gourmet menu of their Casa del Lago can easily rival the Italian cuisine of the highly coveted New York City scene.

Boasting a generous 700 square feet of decadently designed accommodations for their entry-level guest rooms, residences are extremely spacious and exceed the expectations of many discerning travelers. My room amenities were augmented by a private rooftop solarium, secluded deck complete with plunge pool and decadent marble bathroom. Aside from the excess of indoor glamour, there was an enormous outdoor shower discreetly situated in the open air. This secret amenity can easily be named as one of my favorite pampering experiences among the many that are offered.

The Rosewood Spa is absolutely divine. A time-honored tradition, there are separate male and female quarters however the massive size of the spa would not indicate the presence of any other facility. What seemed to be an endless menu of extravagance, the compound included indoor jet pools, therapeutic jacuzzis, a scintillating sauna, steam room and revitalizing plunge pools. The spa is not only renowned for its capability for physical healing, but the stunning visual aesthetic harmonizes all of your senses for a completely rejuvenating aura.

Situated in the renowned region of the Riviera Maya, there are naturally so many options for entertainment and excursions. It is easy to venture to Playa del Carmen and get lost in the local culture, immersed in the music, cuisine, art galleries night life, and of course, shopping. A district with the nostalgic namesake, Fifth Avenue is where you can find the most popular global brands as well as charming regional treasures. If you are in an adventurous mood you may decide to go to Xcaret Amusement Park, zip-lining, to the Mayan Ruins or choose from an abundance of thrilling activities, making it the perfect escape for families, reunions, group of friends, couples, honeymooners or a thrill-seeker destination. The best part about visiting the Rosewood Mayakobá is that if you prefer to stay in the area of the resort, there is plenty to explore without ever having to leave your picturesque Mexican haven on the water.
